Writing a book about Blount Springs, Al…On Sept. 19, 1861, Company “F” had enlistments to the Blount County Tiger Boys, my question is how did this work, did the army set up tents in the town, use a current business location? And when it was over did the boys go straight to training, battle, what? Need to know, want the book to be as accurate as possible. Thank you for your time.

Nice piece. I have a story that is somewhat similar, but about 1st Lt. Ambrose Booton Brown of Co. D, 7th Virginia Cavalry while on the far left of the Confederate line at Antietam/Sharpsburg. There isn’t a lot of information in his service record about the incident, but a postwar account I found shed some light.
A few men of the regiment were observing from the far left, in what seemed to be a safe distance from the fighting, when a cannonball decapitated the young lieutenant, a former school teacher from Hope Mills (just north of Luray) in Page County, Va. Another trooper who wrote about the incident said that he “was almost in touch of him when he was killed.” Best, Robert Moore

Guy named wayland, phd, morning side books in the 60s iirc republished one of his books.. Stonewall. Jackson’s way, which I purchased.. Fascentating book. Referenced another book he wrote on the valley pike.. A unique or original road in American history. Off and on Thru the years have looked for that book. I think there is a copy in the fairfax va library. Wonder if you are aware of the book.
