Earlier today, Richard Williams revealed my small part in his forthcoming book, Lexington, Virginia and the Civil War. It was indeed an honor for me, that Richard asked if I could contribute something pertaining to Southern Unionists in Lexington and Rockbridge County.
The contribution also gave me thoughts as to where I want to take my next book, about Southern Unionists in the Shenandoah Valley. Part of that organization of thoughts shows up in my contribution… from Unionists sentiment founded in Whig ideals; to the splintering of sentiments among those very people (conditional and unconditional Unionists); and, of course, telling the stories of the various “layers” of Southern Unionists (to include, for example, Loyalist Claims applicants and soldiers of the U.S.C.T.).
In the meantime, congratulations, Richard! Wishing you every success with the new book!

Thanks for the plug Robert. For someone wanting some general information about Lexington and the WBTS, along with a few “nuggets” – I think it works well. History Press books are, for the most part, marketed to a general audience and I believe the book fits their targeted market nicely. We shall see.
