As those who frequent this blog know, I also have interests in the history of the C&O Canal. So, when I saw this, I thought I’d share…
“Hey, hey, hey, Lock Ready!”
For more video footage of the canal, but in action in 1917, check out the follow-up post.

Found an album with the song: “Seldom Scene Live at the Cellar Door.” Likely there are more but maybe not one by Mr. Starling?

Robert,
Thanks for the great C&O materials. Do you know in which John Starling album “Hey, hey, hey, lock ready” is found?

Hi Larry,
Not sure, but if there are more about the C&O, I’d like to find them. I recently heard a story about boatmen, but that was on the Ohio River. Still a good song, and from the early 19th century.

This great song is featured on the Seldom Scene’s “Old Train” record/CD (I have ‘em both). Another great track from that release is the Scene’s rendition of Hank Williams’ “Pan American”.

John Starling wrote C&O Canal. It appeared first on the Old Train album, then on Live at the Cellar Door.
