Hi Robert,

Thanks for keeping me updated. I'm not checking my email regularly because my tennis elbow is acting up and typing aggravates it. So if you don't hear from me in days on end, that's why.

Hi Dianne,

The bad news is that the laptop that crashed has my family tree info on the hard-drive. The good news is, the hard drive is ok, but I just need to take it in to have it downloaded to my book drive. Just to let you know, I haven't forgotten you...

Hi Robert, Glad to see you're back online again. I was beginning to worry that the flu had reared its ugly head again. Take your time getting back to me; I'm sure you have much catching up to do.

Hi Robert, I hope you are feeling much better; I read that you'd been ill with the swine flu. About the Offenbackers, I recently started researching them, having worked on my Mother's side for many years. I've traced back to my g-g-grandfather Paul Offenbacker and that's where I'm stuck. My "mission" is to figure out where we came from in Germany and hopefully go there. It's been family legend that we originated in Offenbach, Germany but I'd like to find out if that's really so. Back to Paul Offenbacker, I was wondering if he's in your tree. Here is his info: Paul Offenbacker, b. 1809 Marksville, Page, Virginia, m. Nancy Keyser 05 DEC 1839 , Page, Virginia, d. 15 OCT 1884 Marksville, Page, Virginia. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated! I'm also going through some Hawksbill church records that I found recently but so far nothing gels. Thanks a lot!

Will, I'm afraid that's not entirely correct. Christian Hilliard did not join the Confederate army. He was too young... and and was, in fact, a hard-core republican after the war. Charles Robert Hilliard, my gg grandfather, joined in the fall of 1864. To my knowledge, John Henderson never adopted the last name "Hilliard."

You mentioned my grandfather, Jacob Hilliard of Page County, as being a distant uncle. His step brother John Henderson Hilliard was also at Gettysburg. My grandfather's brother Chris did not join the &th until later in the war.

My most interesting one (George A. Ege) of the lot was a fellow who started out in an Ohio infantry regt. (Co. F, 2nd Ohio) in the east at First Bull Run, moved to an artillery unit (as a 1st lt. in the 17th Ohio Independent Btty) in the west (the unit he was with at Vicksburg), and then (within weeks of the fall of Vicksburg) transitioned to the Navy on the monitor Ozark as a Masters Mate. Was even with Porter and Banks during the Red River expedition. The guy made the rounds, to be sure.
