Historical Census Browser

For those curious about statistics, and those who like to tap into census records for data, you will note that I have placed a link to the University of Virginia Library’s Historical Census Browser in the right hand column (a new column that features Historic Databases on the Web). I’ve been using this link for a few years, but thought there might be some who would find it useful. Just as an example, in conducting an “on-the-fly” search, I found out that, in 1860, 18 slaves were in New Jersey, but there weren’t any slaveholders! The only thing that I can figure is that they must have been hired-out to somebody up there.

Nonetheless, interesting stuff can be had from a multitude of queries. Enjoy!
